David Gallup is an award-winning, contemporary impressionist painter based in California. In this book, Gallup works with biologist Betsy Crowfoot to educate readers about the diverse terrain and wildlife native to California’s Channel Islands.
The layout is clean and minimal. His traditional painting style is echoed in the type treatment with the use of elegant serif fonts and drop caps, while the color palette draws out the recurring hues of purple and gray used throughout his body of work.
Kari illustrated each of the islands in pen and ink, which are featured on chapter pages and in the full hand-drawn map that serves as the backdrop for the Table of Contents page.
